The Pretty Darns/Andrew Sisters

Halloween has come and gone but not without the opportunity to don the apparel of one of the greatest girl groups of all time, The Andrew Sisters. Please enjoy some pictures from a gig at the Red Cliff Ranch Cafe in Monte Cristo, UT where the owner (aka Hugh Hefner) delighted us with his harmonica skills.  Happy Holidays from the Pretty Darns!
Love, Liz

All of our eyes are closed! Not just mine.

All of these pictures are suspiciously similar but ...don't care! It was a fun evening.

JOHN MAYER

Yes, my love for John Mayer is strong,  even when he wears ridiculous things and provides thousands of adoring fans with wildly inappropriate stage banter. And this year I had my girls with me! (along with roommates, friends and dates - we do not discriminate when it comes to sharing the John Mayer love) What a great evening.

I've been thinking a lot about it and it would be pretty cool to become super famous. To sell out shows in venues that hold thousands; to play at that venue and have everybody singing along and loving your music. That would be nice. But as I think about it, I realize it's also pretty nice to be able to play anywhere for anyone. And then there are those times when we get to play somewhere and someone in the audience is singing along and there's a table in the corner full of people that stay the whole night because they are loving the music. It may not be thousands but it's pretty cool.

The World of Whatever We Are

Blaaaaaaaahg. The Pretty Darns have begun their blog. We decided it was time. In case you have not yet heard of us Pretty Darns, let me share a little bit of our history with you.

The three of us, Lacey Johnson, Annemarie Neff and Liz Woolley met in a little town known as Ephraim, UT. We were all attending Snow College and at the time pursuing very different musical aspirations. Lacey was a violinist, Annemarie a classically trained vocalist and I (this is Liz, by the way) was playing the piano in both classical and jazz settings. We spent many hours developing our friendship in those hallowed halls of the Music Building. But after two (or maybe three) years at a small college, we all ended up going our different ways. After a time of being strewn across the great state of Utah, one day The Pretty Darns just came together. I actually don't really know how it came about. Lacey and Annemarie ended up being roommates and I was up north attending Utah State University. But Lacey was playing around in bluegrass bands in SLC, Annemarie had a guitar and I had a mandolin and so TADA! The Pretty Darns were born. And by the way, the chemistry - instant!

It's been a pretty great year and a half, with highlights consisting of making it to the RENO round of the Colgate Country Showdown, placing at the Spanish Fork Battle of the Bands, as well as a warm reception from audiences statewide.

We've begun working on our debut album AND there is a website up for your enjoyment and information, www.theprettydarns.com

Besides the website, we're hip to facebook and myspace. Check us out!

We've also got a few shows coming up and we'd love to see you there!

August 28 - Smokin' Blues BBQ in Providence, UT - 6:30-9:00
September 24 - Red Cliff Cafe in Huntsville, UT - 7:30-10:00

We're also trying to organize a House Concert Tour - more details to come!

Also, I think the best way to denote enthusiasm is the use of exclamation points. You'll learn that soon enough.
